FTP at the RACF

by admin last modified Jan 28, 2008 04:30 PM

The RACF supports several methods for transporting data between the RACF and other facilities via the network. However, due to the changing nature of the internet, the RACF does not support protocols that transmit user names and passwords over the network as plain text. As a result, unsafe protocols such as FTP and rcp are NOT supported at the RACF. In addition to supporting only safe protocols, the RACF only supports data transfers from special gateway servers that are dedicated to network transfers of bulk data.

Methods

Currently the supported transfer methods on the network transfer servers are as follows:

Gateway

rftpexp.rhic.bnl.gov and aftpexp.bnl.gov are the gateways

for data transfers to and from the RACF via the network. All file systems at the RACF are accessible from this system.

This gateway is part of the RACF security perimeter and should be the only interactive systems that is used for data transfers from and to the RACF via the network.
