As
part of the Quark Matter 2001 conference, we have planned several
activities specifically geared to students. The current schedule
is:
|
Sunday
afternoon (before conference)
Mini-Symposium
|
There
will be a 3-hour
mini-symposium covering experimental and
theoretical information relevant to the conference. We expect the
speakers to also be a mix of both experimentalists and theorists.
The topics to be covered will range from the relevance of
heavy-ion physics to other fields to the current experimental and
theoretical understanding based on what is known from
AGS/CERN/RHIC to the most exciting speculative questions in the
field.

Dinner
|
Lawrence
M. Krauss (author of, among other works, The
Physics of Star Trek) will be giving a lecture open to the public. This evening we will have a dinner for him and the
students where he will discuss the role of science and the public
scientist in today's society.

Lunch
|
We
will sponsor a luncheon for the students as well as a select
group of more senior scientists. This will be an excellent way to
discuss scientific issues raised at the confefence and to
interact with prominent scientists in the field.
|
In
addition to these, the Tuesday trip to BNL will allow students to
tour the four RHIC experiments and discuss experimental and
physics issues with RHIC scientists. Furthermore, the conference
excursion will be to the exciting new Rose
Center and Planetarium of the Museum of Natural History in New
York City.
Accepted
applicants will be entitled to several major benefits:
Pay
a special reduced fee for the conference of US$150, if it is
paid in full before December 1 2000
They
will also be entitled to stay in low-cost dormitory housing on
the BNL site (Bus transport to and from conference activities
will be provided)
Moreover,
in general there will be low cost breakfast and dinners available
at BNL and on the SUNY-SB campus.
